In the context of further strengthening the General Management of Global Markets, Eurobank EFG announces the appointment of Mr George Athanasopoulos, a qualified executive with international experience, to its team.
Mr. Athanasopoulos, who takes office as General Manager on June 1st, 2009, will lead Global Trading, Sales and Structuring at Group level, reporting to Mr. Fokion Karavias, General Manager of Global Markets and Member of the Executive Committee.
Mr George Athanasopoulos’ areas of responsibility include:
- The Global Markets Trading Division, responsible for the management of all market risks.
- The Global Markets Sales Division, responsible for the sale of investment products and financial risk management products to individuals, institutional and corporate clients.
- The Global Markets Structuring Department, responsible for designing and developing new financial products and market risk management services for clients.
- All Global Markets’ trading and sales units of subsidiary banks outside Greece, in order to enhance headquarter management and monitoring of market risks and facilitate the effective coordination of sales of financial risk management products to clients in the Group.
Mr. Athanasopoulos has a long and successful international experience in the area of Global Markets, both in risk management and in financial products’ sales. Prior to joining Eurobank EFG, Mr. Athanasopoulos served for the past 5 years as Managing Director at Barclays Capital in London, heading all Exchange product sales units and Emerging market product sales units worldwide. In addition, he was a member of the Barclays Capital Sales Management Committee.
From 1992 to 2004, he worked at Merrill Lynch as Head of Complex Options Trading Asia-Pacific in Tokyo and Singapore, initially and later as Managing Director, Head of Foreign Exchange Investor Sales Europe, in London. He was also a senior executive of Natwest in London and Hong Kong in various trading and structuring positions, including that of Global Head of Foreign Exchange Structuring.
Mr. Athanasopoulos holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the NTUA and a Masters degree in Shipping, Trade and Finance from Cass Business School, in London.
The presence of Mr Athanasopoulos enhances the already established management team of the General Management of Global Markets.
