8 teachers were placed on Agios Efstratios, Astypalaia, Oinousses, Psara, Chalki, Tilos, Kasos and Kastellorizo islands to teach robotics and music, and to offer speech therapy, dance therapy and recreational activity programmes to primary school students in 2025.

Small islands – Big dreams

A long journey has started with the aim to bring teachers close to children living in remote areas in Greece.

We contacted local authorities of islands with less than 1,000 residents and discussed their needs.

Today qualified teachers offer free activities to primary school students:

  • Robotics lessons on Agios Efstratios and Kasos
  • Music lessons on Kastellorizo
  • Speech therapy on Oinousses and Tilos
  • Dance therapy on Astypalaia and Psara
  • Recreational activities on Chalki

The lessons are carried out in partnership with the Apostoli NGO, the charity organisation of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, in consultation with:

  • Local municipalities
  • Parent-Teacher Associations

Distinction for the robotics team of Agios Efstratios

The children’s dreams went beyond the borders of their small island. The Agios Efstratios Robotics team was set up on Agios Efstratios.

With the support of Eurobank, the students and their teacher travelled to Heraklion, Crete, to participate in the 3rd Minoan Robotsports Competition Global Olympiad, held on 26-29 April 2024.

They competed in football and archery with other robotic teams from all over the world.

Finally, the team turned its motto into reality: “Nothing is easy – nothing is impossible”! The team managed to reach the final phase in football, and conquered the 1st place in archery in its category.

Our goals for the future

Through the Moving Family Forward initiative we aim to:

  • Create more positive experiences for students in remote areas and opportunities for a better life.
  • Increase the number of students participating in creative activities.
  • Meet the children’s needs in more remote areas.
  • Motivate even more teachers to visit the remote islands and make children’s dreams come true.
