Documentary collections (sight or term)

Documentary collections (sight or term)

Monitoring
of the transaction
Protection against
deviation risks
Control over
merchandise
Documentary collections give buyers (importers) and sellers (exporters) a framework for payment and delivery against shipping documents, with their banks facilitating the process as custodians/managers.

Who it is addressed to

It is addressed to cases where the seller (exporter) wishes to be protected against the risk of the buyer (importer) not following their instructions in relation to payment against delivery of shipping documents. The Bank does not guarantee the payment, but acts as a custodian of the original shipping documents, in line with the instructions received by the contracting party.

What you gain as an exporter

  • Monitor the transaction stages, i.e. dispatch of the original shipping documents, receipt by the buyer’s bank, acceptance of the time draft and payment.
  • Easily track the progress of shipping documents and payment.
  • Maintain control over the merchandise until delivery of the shipping documents.
  • Ensure the delivery of the original shipping documents after payment or upon acceptance of the time draft.

What you gain as an importer

  • Carry out the payment or accept the time draft upon shipment arrival.
  • Collect the original shipping documents.

How it works

The buyer (importer) is notified by their bank about the arrival of the shipping documents. The bank delivers the original documents (financial and commercial) against payment (sight) or acceptance of a time draft (term).
