Eurobank EFG appoints CIO

Eurobank EFG is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Yianos Kontopoulos in the position of the Chief Investment Officer for the Group, effective as of at 1.1.2010.
 
Mr. Kontopoulos will head the Group’ s new Global Investment Advisory Division which shall aim to provide comprehensive asset management services and advice to private banking and institutional clients both in Greece and abroad.  He shall be reporting to Mr. Fokion Karavias, General Manager for Global Markets, Institutional Asset Management and Services and Member of the Executive Committee. 
The responsibilities of Mr. Kontopoulos include:

  1. Investment Research of all the basic trends and developments on the international markets for foreign exchange, bonds, credit, equities and commodities, as well as the corresponding markets for derivative products.
  2. The development, in co-operation with other Group’ s Units, of the investment strategy proposals and portfolios for Private Banking and Institutional clients of the Group taking into account their risk profile and investment horizon.
  3. Investment Consulting Services to Private Banking and Institutional clients in all countries where the Group is active.

Mr. Kontopoulos shall also be responsible for the coordination of the Group Investment Committee. 
Messrs. Christos Elaphros (Chief Investment Officer, Equities) and Platon Chaldaios (Chief Investment Officer, Fixed Income), will also have senior positions in the new Global Investment Advisory Division. Both have long standing experience in the markets and have been with the Group for a number of years.
Mr. Kontopoulos possesses long standing and successful international experience in capital markets. He has been employed at Salomon Brothers and at Merrill Lynch where he served as Managing Director and Chief Global Foreign Exchange Strategist. From the end of 2006 until mid 2009 he was one of the co-founders and a founding executive of FXcube, a New York – based Fund, specializing in  systematic market strategies.

He holds a Ph. D., a M. Phil., and an M. A. in Economics from Columbia University and an A. B., magna cum laude, also in Economics, from Harvard University.

The new Global Investment Advisory Division will bolster the leading presence of Eurobank EFG in Private Banking (with total assets under management in excess of 7.5 billion Euros) and asset management for institutional investors. The new structure and staffing aims to strengthen the range and the quality of the investment services offered- to its clients and to further develop asset management activities.
