EFG EUROBANK Invests in Education - Arta, Preveza and Lefkada

In the context of the events organized by Eurobank EFG in order to reward the best students from all Greek high schools who obtained the highest grades for admission to tertiary education, the 10th award ceremony for the best students of the regions of Arta, Preveza and Lefkada was held in the city of Arta.

The sponsorship programme, "The Great Moment for Education”, which was launched by Eurobank EFG in 2003, is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and is one of the most important sponsorship initiatives of the Eurobank EFG Group that has chosen to be actively involved within the community by lending its support to the fields of Education, Culture, Environment and Sports. Through this programme, awards have been given until today to 4,000 students in Greece who have obtained the highest marks and who are the most vibrant message of progress for our society.

The main aim of the “The Great Moment for Education” programme is to reward young people's efforts in their pursuit of knowledge and to recognize those who have achieved excellence and who represent a prospect and guarantee for the future.

Under this programme, awards have been given until now to 4,000 students in the whole of Greece who have obtained the highest marks and who are the most vibrant message of progress for our society.

The main aim of the “A Great Moment for Education” programme is to reward young people's efforts in their pursuit of knowledge and to recognize those who have achieved excellence and who represent a prospect and guarantee for the future.

Eurobank EFG wishes by means of these symbolic awards to promote the timeless significance of the values that inspire and guide young people as they strive for a worthy future marked by creativity and innovative thinking.

In the context of the programme, which concerns over 230,000 pupils graduating from senior high school throughout Greece, Eurobank EFG rewards each year the pupi1s who achieved the highest marks for admission to tertiary education in each of the 1,300 high schools in Greece, public and private, daily or evening.

The award is accompanied by the amount of € 1,000, which is deposited in a savings account at a Eurobank EFG branch in the relevant city.

The following dignitaries honored the event with their presence: Arta MP Theodoros Koliopanos, Father Nikon Koutsidis, representing His Eminence the Metropolitan of Nikopolis and Preveza Meletios, the Deputy Regional Governor of Arta Ms. Vasiliki Vangeli, the Deputy Regional Governor of Preveza, Dimitris Costas, the Deputy Regional Governor of Lefkada Yannis Zavitsianos, Arta Regional Councilor Ms. Evangelia Barkonikou, Arta Deputy Mayor for Technical Services Grigorios Tromboukis, the Head of Scientific and Pedagogical Guidance in Secondary Education for the Epirus region Ms. Maria Rapti and other representatives of local and regional government.

The Arta MP, Mr. Theodororos Koliopanos took the floor first and congratulated Eurobank EFG for its initiative, stressing that the distribution of a part of the Bank’s profits to sponsorship programmes reveals an organization with values and social sensitivity. He also congratulated the laureates for their success, as well as their families and teachers.

The Arta Deputy Regional Governor, Ms. Vasiliki Vangeli congratulated the students as well as Eurobank EFG for providing encouragement with its programme to young people to persevere, thus conveying to them the message that effort is always rewarded.

In his address, the Deputy Regional Governor of Lefkada, Mr. Yannis Zavitsanos, also referred to the Bank’s contribution, wishing that such programmes may continue and be imitated by others.

In his address the Deputy Regional Governor of Preveza, Mr. Dimitirs Costas, underlined that Eurobank EFG is rewarding in the person of the laureates all the region’s children and supports their struggle for a better future, whilst recognizing the parents’ concern and the teachers’ contribution. He also congratulated the Bank for its social sensitivity, which makes it a paradigm for other organizations.

The Arta Deputy Mayor for Technical Services, Mr. Grigorios Tromboukis, also congratulated the Bank for its social awareness, which brings it closer to society through it programmes in support of Education, Culture, Environment and Sports.

Father Nikon Koutsidis, who represented His Eminence the Metropolitan of Nikopolis and Preveza Meletios, expressed his satisfaction for Eurobank EFG initiative, which supports learning and encourages young people on the road to knowledge and science.

The Head of Scientific and Pedagogical Guidance in Secondary Education for the Epirus region Ms. Maria Rapti who represented the Regional Director of Primary and Secondary Education for the Epirus region, Mr. N. Petropoulos, congratulated all students, their families and teachers, noting that behind every success there is an individual that sets objectives, a citizen of tomorrow who will fight with consistency for what he believes.

Messages were received from Preveza MP Evangelos Papachristos, the Secretary General of the Ionian Islands region Sotiris Vosdou and His Eminence the Metropolitan of Lefkada and Ithaki Nikiforos.

The schools from which the best student who had obtained the highest overall marks for admission to tertiary education graduated in each region received an honorary plaque: in the region of Arta, the Arta 1st General High School of Arta from where Apostolos Pappas graduated; in the region of Preveza, the Preveza 2nd General High School from which Marios Arvanitis graduated and in the region of Lefkakda, the Lefkada 2nd General High School from which Petros Morfesis graduated.

When receiving the honorary plaque, the Director of the Arta 1st General High School Mihalis Vasilas congratulated Eurobank EFG for its initiative, which gives first priority to Education.

Speaking on behalf of the Principal Thomas Tzouros, Ms. Victoria Kosma, Teacher at the Preveza 2nd General High School, thanked the Bank for rewarding young people for their achievements and wished that this initiative may be imitated by others.

The Assistant Headmaster of the Lefkada General High School Georgios Fetsis, thanked the Bank for the opportunity it gives to schools and to all students, noting that the distinction won by the school is shared by all state schools and all teachers.

Finally, in his short speech, Eurobank EFG Regional Manager, Mr. Antonis Antonopoulos stressed that “responding to the challenges of the new era our Bank encourages youth to focus on learning and progress by introducing this institution. At a time when many of the traditional values, which underpinned the development of our society, are being questioned, we must recognize and reward the best, those who set objectives for themselves and choose the difficult path of strenuous effort in order to attain them”.
