Dr. Spiro J. Latsis, Chairman of the Latsis Group and the EFG Bank Group visited Romania.

Following an official invitation by H.E. the President of Romania Mr. Ion Iliescu, Dr. Spiro J. Latsis, Chairman of the Latsis Group and the EFG Bank Group visited Romania on May 24 & 25, 2004.
Following an official invitation by H.E. the President of Romania Mr. Ion Iliescu, Dr. Spiro J. Latsis, Chairman of the Latsis Group and the EFG Bank Group visited Romania on May 24 & 25, 2004. Mr. Latsis was accompanied by the CEO of EFG Bank Group Dr. Pericles P. Petalas, the CEO of EFG Eurobank Ergasias Mr. Nicholas Nanopoulos, the Bank’s Board members Messrs. Fotis S. Antonatos , Emmanuel L. Bussetil, as well as the General Manager of Latsis Group in Greece Mr. Vaggelis Chronis, the CEO of LAMDA Development Mr. Lambros Anagnostopoulos and other executives of the Group.
During his visit Mr. Latsis and members of his delegation, met with H.E. the President of Romania, Mr. Ion Iliescu, and with H.E. the Prime Minister Mr. Adrian Nastase and discussed issues of mutual interest, covering a wide agenda including privatization plans, macroeconomic issues and infrastructure development.
Mr. Latsis and his delegation, together with the Chairman of Banc Post Mrs. Elena Petculescu and Banc Post’s CEO Mr. David Watson also met with Ministers of the Government of Romania, including State Minister, Minister of Economy and Commerce Mr. Dan Ioan Popescu, State Minister for coordinating National Defense, European Integration and Justice Mr. Ioan Talpes, Minister of Finance Mr. Mihai Tanasescu and with the Governor of the Romanian National Bank Mr. Mugur Isarescu. During the meetings both sides discussed the development prospects of the banking and real estate activities of the Group in Romania, as well as its further involvement in other domains such as shipbuilding.
The Latsis Group current activities in Romania comprise a majority stake in Banc Post - the country’s fifth largest banking establishment - through EFG Eurobank Ergasias and in real estate development through LAMDA Development, both companies listed in the Athens Stock Exchange. The Group has international activities covering a wide spectrum of business areas such as energy, shipping, aviation, real estate, yachting, engineering consulting, banking and financial services.
